UIL One-Act Play
Audition information for “Regarding Electra”
Audition Submission date change – January 10th
No Exceptions!!!!!

From the UIL student director… The UIL One-Act Play is now going to be Regarding Electra, a modern retelling of the Greek tragedy of Orestes. Both online and in-person students are more than welcome to audition, but please note that in-person rehearsals and performances are required. According to UIL rules, we are required to wear masks – so don’t fret. Please read the following audition information carefully!

Auditions will be virtual in the form of a video that you will submit to our email, [email protected]. For your audition, please prepare a 45 second to a 1-minute dramatic monologue that shows a clear arc and is memorized. Show some movement! We recommend that you film from an eye-level angle that is at least waist up. Please also fill out this audition form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf-F5agBLaDFqQ53M-1SzHZLj1Df4AuF7ntf4WDTxdyKs-o3Q/viewform.

Here is some additional information that you will need to know for your audition submissions:
1)   Please slate in your video (name, grade, monologue/author)
2)   The subject line of your email should look like: “Reese Leif, Senior, Female”
3)   Remember that your monologue should be dramatic and have a clear character arc. Show us range, and show us movement! It should be around 45 seconds to a minute long, but don’t stress if it’s slightly over or under. Make sure the video is shot at eye level and shows your body from at least the waist up.

I suggest reading the script, which has been shared in several locations, to get a better sense of the characters.

Audition videos and audition forms will be due by January 10th at noon. No exceptions! If your video is late, it will not be reviewed.

If you are a virtual student who is called back, we will contact you with a time that you can come in after school to show us your scenes.

We are looking forward to viewing your auditions! Please contact student director Reese Leif (832-284-3344) if you have any questions. Take a look at the character descriptions attached.

TICKETS ON SALE NOW!!!!
Follow the link to https://www.shsplayhouse.org/
The show will be performed at Queensbury Theatre. Queensbury Theatre established a seating chart blocking seats as it deemed appropriate to allow for social distancing and the Harris County limited capacity requirements (50% capacity for a total of 125 seats per show). See the link on this page for purchasing tickets.

Things to note before purchasing tickets:

(1) All tickets are $25 each – follow the link to https://www.shsplayhouse.org/

(2) You (for you and your immediate family) may purchase a total of 4 tickets– this limit applies to the entire run of the show (for example, you may purchase 4 tickets to opening night or 2 tickets for opening night and 2 tickets for the closing night). If you try to purchase more, you will be blocked! Also, we will be watching ticket sales (we ask that you follow the rules to allow a chance to see the show).

(3) All ticket purchases are NON-REFUNDABLE (including cancellations of the show or your inability to attend because of COVID-19).

(4) All COVID protocols set by SBISD and/or Queensbury Theatre must be followed (and will be posted on our website closer to the date of performances). This includes standard procedures relating to COVID exposures and the experiencing of symptoms, the wearing of masks at all times, etc. In addition, no concessions or gatherings in the lobby area will be allowed.
(5) Do you have a friend or family member in the cast or crew? Don’t worry, cast and crew will take the stage for final bows at the end of each performance (rather than just closing night). So, please buy tickets for any show date that is convenient for you!

(6) Are you a Stratford High School Student wanting to see the show? There will be a special “student only” showing of Nunsense on Wednesday, February 3rd. Each student ticket will be set at $8.00. Look for information to come.

(7) Are you a teacher at Stratford High School? All teachers interested will receive one free ticket to the show. Look for information to come for signing up.

Our talented playhouse students and directors are thrilled to be putting on the show! We hope that you are able to join us for a night at the theatre. Having trouble purchasing your tickets? Please email the playhouse at [email protected] or text me, Lorraine Alvey, at 713-471-6100.
